Pastor's Message

“Lord be not silent unto me…”
Psalm 28:1

It is official.

Word came from Hollywood this week announcing an end to the writers' strike.

For weeks now, the strike has taken its toll.

  • Viewers have had to endure re-runs as prime time television shows have been placed on hold.

  • Networks have scrambled to fill up air time with alternative programming.

  • Thousands of camera men, sound engineers, actors, set designers etc. have been forced into a sustained form of “temporary unemployment".

  • Workers' families have been pushed into a period of financial hardship.

But, at long last - IT IS OVER!

Those who follow network trends indicate that by late March/April the prime-time shows will be back in force.

  • The interns at Grey’s Anatomy will once again practice medicine.

  • The CSI installments will get back to solving those puzzling homicides.

  • The Office workers will go back to “work”.

At last, Americans can get back to their favorite pastime programs, now that the writers have broken their silence.

But did you know that this writers' strike is not something new?

Try this:  Open your Bible to the last book of the Old Testament (you should be in Malachi).  Now, quickly turn to the first book of the New Testament, the Gospel of Matthew.

Did you hear it?

In between these two books there is a long period of SILENCE!

To be specific, in between Malachi and Matthew there is a 600 year period of SILENCE during which God’s writers did not write.

Over this period of time, often called the Inter-Testamental Period, many people wondered where the voice of God had gone. Instead of sending new prophets, the Lord in essence called His people to reruns. He called upon Israel to go back and listen again and again to what had already been written concerning the Messiah. Many argue that God did this to help His people learn to really listen to what He has said.

In some respect, I believe that the season of the church year that we are in today, LENT, is  much like this. LENT represents the wilderness. It reminds us that there are periods in our lives when God seems to be silent. Typically, we do not like these periods. We want God to speak up and to do so NOW. Yet, so often He calls us in response to go back…to re-examine what He has already given us. He calls upon us to learn to listen!

God broke the Inter-Testamental Period of silence with the birth of His Son!

In similar fashion, He breaks the silence of LENT with the explosion of the Resurrection.

Until then, may the Lord bless your silent times with the Word that we hold dear!

In Christ,

Pastor Luke

Rev. Dr. Luke Biggs

100th Day of School Celebration!

Our kindergarten students transformed and became 100 years old last Friday!  In celebration of the 100th day of school, Kindergarten students and teachers dressed as if they were 100 years old and paraded around the lower school hall ways.  After the parade, students spent the rest of the day doing many hands-on activities that related to number 100. By the end of this exciting busy day, the kindergarten students felt like they were 100 years old!
