Pastor's Message

You were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with the precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. I Peter 2: 18-19

$ 2.7 Million Dollars!

Wow! That is a lot of money.

Just stop for a moment and think of all the things a person could do with that kind of cash.

If one wanted, they could afford themselves some awesome luxuries…perhaps a new home, furnishings or a fancy car. You name it, you got it.

Or if one were more generous this kind of money could be used for a lot of good. Imagine the impact these dollars might have in a mission field like Kenya where one hundred dollars can cover the expense of food and clothing of an individual for up to a year.

No doubt about it! $2.7 million dollars is a lot of money.

The reason that I bring the figure up has to do with one of America’s great celebrations. You see, this past Sunday, millions of people gathered around television screens to watch two opposing forces collide upon a gridiron in Phoenix, Arizona. Indeed, it was Super Bowl Sunday!

And the cost for a 30 second advertisement during this prime time event?

$2.7 million Dollars

You can not consider this kind of expense and not conclude that there are a number of advertisers willing to shell out big bucks in an effort to capture the nations’ attention regarding their product.

Then there is our God.

I don’t know about you, but I am captured by the depth of the verse above. In fact, it makes $2.7 million dollars pale by comparison!

Just think, in an effort to capture the hearts of people God was asked a question: “What price are you willing to pay?”

The answer: God said, to redeem my people, I will pay the greatest price of all, the blood of my Son.

This month we are looking at some of the most significant Scriptures in the Bible surrounding the subject of God’s Love. This week, I hope that we can recognize that the kind of love that God wants us to experience in our relationship with Him and with one another is more than Super Bowl sized.

Please join us as we come around a word that has the power to transform your LOVE life!

In His Hands,

Pastor Luke

Rev. Dr. Luke Biggs

With over 27 years of educational experience, Prince of Peace Christian School will introduce an Early Learning Center in August 2008.  This program will be devoted to the developmental needs of children from six weeks – two years old. This program will work in conjunction with Prince of Peace Christian School to prepare children for a seamless transition into preschool.

We anticipate this program will be overwhelmingly popular, so we will be offering advance placement to our Prince of Peace families and church members. During the month of January, you will have the opportunity to enroll prior to the public.

Kenya Update

Some of you have been following the news about Kenya and know a lot about the situation and some of you may not know. A disputed presidential election took place at the end of December 2007 and has led to violent protesting. The violence has become out of control. Many roads are blocks with bands of youths and has cause the food containers in Mombasa (the coast) to stay there.

I wanted the congregation to know three things: First, that the communication between Pastor Tobias and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church is ongoing and regular, almost daily. Secondly, what goes into the decision-making about mission trips. One of the factors is safety. Not only the safety of our congregation but the safety of those we go to serve. That factor has caused us to make the decision to cancel the trips at this time. Lastly, I want you to know that our commitment to the ministry in Kenya and Prince of Peace Obunga will continue. Please know our hearts are wrapped with our friends in Kenya.

Join me in prayer for our brothers and sisters in Christ and for hope of return in the future.

Beth
