Pastor's Message

Jesus responded, “My Kingdom is not of this world…”

Moments after winning the National Championship, the Quarterback for the L.S.U. Tigers had a microphone placed before his mouth.

The interviewer, smiling ear to ear asked, “What are you going to do now that you have won the National Championship?”

 The predictable response:

“Now that I have won the National Championship, I’m going to Disney World!”

Indeed, for many people the “Magic Kingdom” represents the epitome of success. It is a Kingdom filled with spectacle, fun and that magical intangible that often eludes our everyday existence: “HAPPINESS!”

I find it significant that God’s Kingdom is different!

In Christianity, God calls us into a Kingdom that He said, “is not of this world.” And, He meant it!

 Please don’t misunderstand.

It is not as though there is no “happiness” in God’s Kingdom, but His is more about HOLINESS than “happiness.”

The Kingdom that Jesus calls us into is one that requires us to “lay down our selves (that is our desires, wants and needs), take up our cross (that is His calling upon our lives) and follow HIM. And follow, we do!

His is a Kingdom where there are there are no “characters” running around, (you won’t find Mickey or Minnie in the Gospels) but where CHARACTER is of paramount importance. After all, The King calls us to a “character” that is made in the image of His Son.

As for rollercoaster’s and rides?

No! You won’t find these in His Kingdom either. However, I will assure you that to follow Him is to discover new turns and twists in your life each day! It is a journey where Jesus says, “Hang On!” And so we do. Sometimes with white knuckles we hang on…to the promises He has given to “see us through!”

And, when the “lights go out” at the end of our journey?

No! There will not be fireworks. But there will be something even more beautiful; something beyond our imagination. In the end, our King tells us, we will enter into His Kingdom for ever. We will look upon His Face and see the full glory of God in all of His radiance.

As we enter this New Year together, It is my hope that your lives will be filled up with a BOLD measure of His Kingdom and His Character!  I look forward to the journey before us in 2008!

Having a BOLD New Year,

Pastor Luke

Thanks to Christmas Eve Bakers, Greeters, Ushers & Volunteers . . .

Bakers:  Thank you for the many baked goods and other items provided for our Christmas Eve fellowship! Though it may seem like a small thing, your work really impacted the lives of the nearly 2000 visitors and members of Prince of Peace who attended worship on Christmas Eve. With your help we began a tradition and made Prince of Peace a more welcoming place on Christmas Eve.

Greeters, Ushers & Volunteers:  Thank you for making our church home an inviting and welcoming place for Christmas!  It REALLY makes a difference when we welcome everyone, especially our guests, with a warm, friend smile!  Thanks for serving others!

Galatians 5:22-23a But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

As the calendar page turned to 2008 we celebrated a New Year but we challenge you to make your celebration a daily event; for scripture says that the Lord makes all things new.  We are offered newness moment by moment: new ways to grow and learn; new ways to be humble and serve; new ways to exhibit the fruits of the Spirit as we reach out to others.  Apart from Christ we can do nothing but in Him we can bear much fruit.  May you, in this New Year, having new opportunities, living in this new day, be fruitful for the Lord as you reach out to others and share His love in a tangible way.

With over 27 years of educational experience, Prince of Peace Christian School will introduce an Early Learning Center in August 2008.  This program will be devoted to the developmental needs of children from six weeks – two years old. This program will work in conjunction with Prince of Peace Christian School to prepare children for a seamless transition into preschool.

God in a Laundromat: A Story from 1st Saturday

January 5, 2008

The woman seemed a little out of place, a suburban soccer mom in a Laundromat filled with working class and immigrant women. Her body language said, “Stay away!” Dark sunglasses were concealing her weary eyes.

“Allow me to pay for your laundry,” I said, approaching warily but smiling. “We’re from a local church and we’re just trying to commit random acts of kindness.”

“No, no thank you,” she waved me away, but I could tell she didn’t really mean it.

“Really, I’m looking for an excuse to pass out cards for my church.” I held out my hands; quarters in one and the church business cards in the other.

“I don’t live here, “she thought for a moment, “but my son needs a church.”

From that small opening we began to talk. She shared that her 23-year-old son was strung out on drugs. She was just trying to get him some clean clothes, while he slept. I talked about one of my sons who has battled drug and alcohol addictions and is now recovering. Suddenly, she knew – that I know what she’s going through. The dam burst and she spilled it all. She’d driven up from Houston. He was back at the apartment, trying to detox. She was exhausted and beaten down. She didn’t know where to turn…or what to do next…

And then it became obvious why God had sent me there, to a Laundromat on a beautiful Saturday morning......

Next Mission Saturday:

February 2, 2008
9am - 12pm
Meet in the Conference Center

Mission Saturdays are an opportunity to INTRODUCE POP to our community and serve others!  Wear comfortable clothes and shoes.  Come with a willingness to serve others in simple ways.  On January 5 we visited Starbucks, the Laundromat, the park and member’s homes.

Kenya

Email Message from Pastor Tobias in Kisumu, Kenya concerning the recent National Election and fighting:

January 8

"We had a wonderful day till in the evening when the rigged in President announced part of his cabinet and appointed the person who was third in the presidential elections as his Vice President. As a results chaos erupted in most of Kisumu and the gun shots started again. One person is already shot dead and we do not know how the mediation will move on due to the partial appointment of the cabinet. Let's continue praying and God bless you richly. Yours in Christ Jesus."

Keep Kenya in your prayers!  They need their church family in Carrollton, Texas to be a rock during this difficult time by praying HARD!
